AgencyAnalytics vs Looker Studio: Which Is Better for Agencies?

· 6 min read · Ali Raza Abro

In AgencyAnalytics vs Looker Studio, the trade-off is time versus control. AgencyAnalytics is a paid, agency-built platform with ready-made marketing integrations, templates, white-label client logins and built-in SEO tools, so you can roll out polished reports quickly. Looker Studio is Google's free dashboard tool, very flexible and strongest with Google data, but you build more yourself and often pay for partner connectors to reach non-Google platforms. Agencies that value speed and a managed client portal tend to choose AgencyAnalytics. Agencies that want custom reports, low tool costs and data in their own Google account tend to choose Looker Studio.

I set up and automate reporting for agencies on both, so this is a practical comparison rather than a feature-list rewrite.

AgencyAnalytics vs Looker Studio at a glance

  • Built for: AgencyAnalytics is built specifically for marketing agencies. Looker Studio is a general-purpose dashboard tool.
  • Cost: AgencyAnalytics is a paid subscription, generally priced around the number of clients. Looker Studio's core product is free. Check AgencyAnalytics' current pricing page.
  • Connectors: AgencyAnalytics includes many marketing integrations in the product. Looker Studio connects natively to Google products and uses partner connectors, many of them paid, for others.
  • Setup time: AgencyAnalytics is faster with templates. Looker Studio takes more design and configuration.
  • Customisation: Looker Studio offers more freedom in layout, blending and calculated fields.
  • Client access: AgencyAnalytics offers white-label client logins. Looker Studio shares reports through Google sharing or links.
  • SEO tools: AgencyAnalytics includes SEO features such as rank tracking. Looker Studio does not, so you bring that data in from elsewhere.

Where AgencyAnalytics is stronger

Speed of rollout

You connect a client's accounts, apply a template and the dashboard fills itself. For an agency onboarding several clients a month, that speed is a real advantage.

Marketing connectors in one subscription

Ad platforms, social, call tracking, local SEO and more are part of the product. With Looker Studio, connecting Meta Ads or LinkedIn Ads usually means paying for a partner connector or building your own pipeline.

White-label client portal

Clients get a branded login with their dashboards. For agencies that sell reporting as part of the experience, this looks professional with little effort.

Built-in SEO tooling

Rank tracking, backlink data and site audits inside the same platform suit SEO agencies that would otherwise pay for and connect separate tools.

Less maintenance

The vendor maintains connectors when platforms change their APIs. With custom Looker Studio setups, that job falls to you or your connector vendor.

Where Looker Studio is stronger

Cost at scale

The core tool is free. If most of your reporting is GA4, Search Console and Google Ads, you can report on many clients for very little. Costs come from partner connectors and the time to build.

Flexibility

Looker Studio lets you design any layout, blend data sources, create calculated fields and filter controls, and connect to Google Sheets or BigQuery for anything else. If a client wants a specific view, you can build it.

Data ownership

Reports and data sources live in your Google account. Combined with BigQuery or Sheets, you own the data history rather than depending on a vendor.

Custom and CRM data

Anything you can get into Google Sheets or BigQuery can appear in Looker Studio. That makes it easy to report on GoHighLevel pipelines, call outcomes or closed revenue alongside marketing data, using automation to load it.

Looker Studio for agencies: the real costs

Free is not zero. Budget for:

  • Build time for the first template and each client's setup.
  • Partner connectors for non-Google sources, often billed per account or per source.
  • Speed issues when reports query several live sources at once. Pre-loading data into Sheets or BigQuery fixes this.
  • Maintenance when a connector or API changes.
  • Training account managers to edit reports safely.

Automation reduces most of these. A scheduled workflow can pull each client's data into a single table, and one template filtered by client replaces dozens of separate reports. I cover how in Looker Studio automation.

Agency reporting comparison by agency type

  1. SEO agency, 20 clients, wants a client portal and rank tracking. AgencyAnalytics is a strong fit.
  2. PPC agency mostly on Google Ads, cost-sensitive. Looker Studio, possibly with Google Ads data loaded to BigQuery.
  3. Full-funnel agency reporting CRM revenue. Looker Studio plus automation that loads CRM data, or AgencyAnalytics plus a custom data feed if it supports your source.
  4. Agency with a few large clients wanting bespoke dashboards. Looker Studio.
  5. Small team, nobody technical. AgencyAnalytics or a similar tool.

Can you use both?

Yes, and some agencies do. AgencyAnalytics handles the standard client portal, while Looker Studio handles bespoke dashboards for larger clients or internal agency-wide views such as all clients' lead trends on one page. The risk is two systems to maintain, so be deliberate about which client uses which.

How to decide

  1. List your clients' data sources and check native support in AgencyAnalytics and Looker Studio, including connector costs.
  2. Estimate your monthly cost for each at today's client count and at double.
  3. Estimate build and maintenance hours for Looker Studio honestly.
  4. Ask three clients what they actually use: a portal, an emailed PDF or a summary from their account manager.
  5. Trial both with one simple and one complex client.

If clients mostly read a summary and rarely log in, the client portal matters less than you think, and a well-automated Looker Studio report plus a short written update may be enough.

Alternatives to consider

If neither fits, DashThis, Databox and Whatagraph are worth a look. I compare them in DashThis vs AgencyAnalytics vs Databox and give the wider view in marketing agency reporting tools.

Migrating from one to the other

Agencies do switch in both directions, usually when the client count changes. A few practical notes:

  • Looker Studio to AgencyAnalytics: the main work is reconnecting each client's accounts and rebuilding any custom metrics. Custom data you fed from Sheets may need a new route in, so check how the platform accepts custom data before committing.
  • AgencyAnalytics to Looker Studio: the main work is building the template and the data feed. Do it once properly, with every client's data in one table and a client filter, rather than recreating one report per client.
  • Either way: run both side by side for one reporting cycle, compare numbers for a few clients, and tell clients in advance that the report format is changing.

Keep historical data in mind. If you rely on a platform's stored history, export what you need before you cancel.

How I build this

Whichever you choose, the gaps are usually the same: CRM data, custom metrics, summaries and alerts. My Agency Reporting and Alerts Pack automates those around your reporting tool in ten days at a fixed price. If you are mid-decision, a free 15-minute Loom teardown of your current reports will usually make the right choice obvious.
